    About the role

    The Director, First Peoples is responsible for leading the First Peoples branch and delivering on the priorities outline below:

    • Deliver on Creative State 2025 commitments and broader government policy relation to First Peoples.
    • Work closely with the First Peoples Directions Circle to ensure self-determined policy and processes are enacted throughout the creative industries.
    • Improve whole-of-Creative Victoria work in support of the First Peoples First principle.
    • Enhance self-determination by delivering First Peoples representation within Creative Victoria.
    • Enhance cross-portfolio, interdepartmental and intergovernmental coordination on First People priorities in the creative industries portfolio.

    About you

    You will be an experienced First Peoples leader with a background in strategic policy development and in delivering on strategic direction. You have extensive experience in developing and managing relationships with key stakeholders across diverse groups and will bring a large professional network to the role. Your people leadership skills are exceptional, and you have a good ability to understand your team and create a culturally safe and cohesive team who understand the vision and their deliverables. You foster a healthy, creative, and innovative work environment that encourages team collaboration and idea generation, which results in an effective and productive team who enjoy coming to work.

    Key Selection Criteria
    1. Specialist knowledge – lived experience and understanding of contemporary Victorian Aboriginal communities.
    2. Relationship building – proven track record of forging useful partnerships across diverse stakeholder groups such as different Community groups, Government, and creative industries.
    3. Written Communication – Experience in preparing complex briefs, letters, emails, and reports at a high level.
    4. Conceptual and analytical ability – uses analytical and conceptual skills to effectively and innovatively problem solve.
    5. People Management – demonstrated senior level people management experience with a proven ability to lead, motivate, foster collaboration and respect, and develop a team of skilled and professional staff.
