Victorian studio Beethoven & Dinosaur has won Game of the Year at the Australian game industry’s night of nights, highlighting the continued excellence of the Victorian games scene.
The Melbourne-based team won Game of the Year for its narrative adventure game Mixtape at the 2026 Australian Game Developer Awards (AGDAs), which were held during Melbourne International Games Week (MIGW).
Mixtape won in two further categories, Excellence in Visual Art and Excellence in Sound Design.
Other Victorian winners include Summerfall Studios, who took home the Excellence in Music award for roguelite deckbuilder game Malys, and Timbo Jimbo won the Excellence in Ongoing category for its mobile racing game Static Shift Racing.
Both Mixtape and Malys were supported by the Victorian Government through VicScreen.
The AGDAs are held annually during MIGW and celebrate the outstanding games and the individual achievements of the Australian game development community.
Since 2020, the awards have been presented by the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (IGEA), the peak industry association representing the voices of Australian and New Zealand companies in the computer and video games industry.
Backed by the Victorian Government and delivered by ACMI, MIGW brings together game enthusiasts, educators, industry experts and the general public for the biggest celebration of games in the Asia Pacific.
Highlights from this year’s MIGW include industry conferences GCAP (Games Connect Asia Pacific) and High Score, and public events such as games expo PAX Aus and a free showcase of over 120 playable Indie games at ACMI.
