Victorian Budget 2024-25

Announced today, the Victorian Budget 2024-25 includes $161.4 million to support creative industries initiatives. This investment aims to back creative jobs, attract cultural tourism and creative business to the state, and ensure Victorians of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy the creative events and experiences they love.

Funded initiatives include:

  • $128 million in 2023-24 and 2024-25 to support the operations of Victoria’s iconic public creative and cultural institutions which collectively welcome more than 10 million visits a year.
  • $16 million in asset funding over four years for critical building and compliance works at Victoria’s state-owned cultural facilities, through the Cultural Facilities Maintenance Fund, to ensure they remain safe and fit-for-use by creative organisations and the Victorian public.
  • $6.5 million over four years to bolster creative festivals and events across the state. This includes funding for Melbourne International Games Week and other events to back Victoria’s games sector for international success.
  • $5 million in 2024-25 to attract high-value games, visual effects, film and television production projects to Victoria and create a pipeline of local jobs in these growing global creative sectors.
  • $4.5 million over 3 years to secure Victoria’s participation in the next National Performing Arts Partnership Framework (2025 – 2028), supporting Victoria’s flagship performing arts companies in collaboration with the federal government.
  • $1 million in 2024-25 to boost the Victorian Government’s Music Works program, backing Victoria’s musicians and music workers in the face of unprecedented industry challenges.

These initiatives are part of more than $500 million in total output funding that has been provided to support Creative Victoria’s operations including funding programs and industry support.

In addition to this the Victorian Government is continuing to invest in the Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation project.
