Melbourne Museum invites you to explore the intriguing world of ants with the amazing new immersive digital exhibition, Antopia.
Antopia presents an adventure for all ages that brings to life the awe and wonder of nature’s little giants through a kaleidoscope of multisensory installations, interactive projections, atmospheric soundscapes and stunning imagery.
Jam-packed with fun and brimming with STEM-centred learning, this exhibition blends science and creativity to help us learn about the world of these tiny and amazing creatures.
Developed in-house by Museums Victoria, Antopia pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in a museum, embracing new ways of communicating through the contemporary fusion of art and science.
Antopia vividly brings pheromone trails to life with luminous swirls of colour, revealing a secret world of senses, and a reality beyond human perception. Visitors will be able to shrink down to the size of an ant and experience a day in the life of the miniscule yet mighty insect.
Through digital animations, 3D sculptures and projections and more, visitors will:
- Learn about the wonderous communication system of an ant colony
- Meet the queen in her chamber
- Checkout the ‘ant pantry’ - where ants stockpile, cultivate and farm food
- Step inside the nursery - where worker ants care for young ants; and
- Follow the work of scout ants who venture outside the colony to find resources.
Guided by the trusted knowledge of resident experts, the talented team at Melbourne Museum has worked together to bring Antopia to life.
Alongside the exhibition there will be summer holiday programming for all ages, including performances by local legends Polyglot Theatre, creative workshops and more.
