Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) – a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the creation of electronic sound and music – has moved into the heart of the city, taking up residence in the Atrium at Fed Square.

MESS’s move to Fed Square has been made possible thanks to support from MAP Co, alongside generous patrons and a successful public fundraising campaign.
Founded by Robin Fox and Byron Scullin in 2016, MESS is home to over 1,000 eclectic and historically significant musical instruments — the largest publicly available in the Southern Hemisphere.
MESS offers opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play and learn about the instruments in their collection through programs, workshops, artist residencies, education and public events.
The new Fed Square location will open up greater access to the public and increase MESS’s visibility and accessibility, ensuring this world class, museum grade collection of instruments is available to a much broader audience.
MESS’s move to Fed Square and broader Melbourne Arts Precinct places it in proximity to cultural organisations like NGV, ACMI and Koorie Heritage Trust, presenting opportunities for collaboration.
