Entries are open for the $60,000 Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture, one of the country’s most valuable and prestigious art prizes.
The annual Melbourne Prize, now in its 19th year, alternates between music, sculpture and writing – this year’s sculpture prize will be followed by the Melbourne Prize for Literature (2024) and the Melbourne Prize for Music (2025).
Artists at all career stages practising in all fields of public sculpture including public installation, new media, performance, sound-based and socially engaged practice, can apply.
As part of their application, entrants must detail how the Prize funds will be used to develop their practice, building on their previous professional work.
Past winners of the sculpture prize include Daniel von Sturmer, Geoff Robbinson and Bianca Hester.
From November 1-15, an augmented reality exhibition at Fed Square will showcase the four finalists, and the public will be able to cast a vote for a finalist to win the $2,000 Civic Choice Award.
The 2023 judges for the award are artists Emily Floyd and Kate ten Buuren and curator of Contemporary Art at the National Gallery of Victoria, Katharina Prugger.
Entries close July 3 2023, finalists will be announced on September 5 and winners announced on November 15.
