Helping Victoria’s Creatives Tour More Regional Towns

From Shepparton to Ballarat, Ocean Grove to Frankston, more creative organisations are set to showcase their work in regional communities across Victoria through the Touring Victoria program.

The latest round of Touring Victoria recipients includes a diverse line-up of performances, exhibitions and masterclasses that will tour regional and outer metropolitan communities in 2024 and 2025.

The program supports leading creative organisations across Victoria to take their works on the road and connect world-class art with more communities and local venues – boosting accessibility and opportunity for Victorians.

The latest round of grants will see Koorie Heritage Trust take its upcoming world premiere exhibition, JXSH MVIR: FOREVER I LIVE, to regional galleries, with this first major retrospective celebrating the work of the late Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Barkindji artist Josh Muir.

It will hit the road after its premiere at Koorie Heritage Trust in 2024.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will tour performances, school workshops and collaborative rehearsals to locations including Geelong, Mildura and Shepparton, while Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s tour will bring music, masterclasses and talks to Mornington, Yackandandah, Horsham and beyond.

The Neurokin program will bring entertaining and accessible storytelling, design and craft sessions designed for Autistic and neurodiverse children and young people to community houses in Ocean Grove, Melton, Yarrawonga and more.

The Neurokin tour will also feature professional development sessions for Autistic and neurodiverse artists, and will support participating venues learn more about how to deliver safe and accessible sensory activities for their local community.

Flying Fruit Flies will bring Tempo, a new musical circus show for children and families, to Wangaratta, Warrnambool and Narre Warren while theatre company Alternative Facts will tour a new theatre work introducing the magic of teaching Shakespeare to school students.

Confirmed stops include Frankston, Sale and Bendigo with more to come.

Touring Victoria is part of the Victorian Government’s Creative State 2025 strategy.

ALTERNATIVE FACTS, $46,788 - Bendigo, Frankston, Narre Warren, Sale
Alternative Facts will tour a new play by David Williams, based on interviews with over 25 teachers, that celebrates teaching Shakespeare to school students and the power of language and imagination.

FLYING FRUIT FLY CIRCUS, $110,000 - Bendigo, Narre Warren, Wangaratta, Warrnambool
Flying Fruit Fly Circus will tour Tempo, a new musical circus production for children and families with a cast of 12 young acrobats from the National Youth Circus. The Victorian leg of this national tour will visit regional and outer metropolitan venues.

KOORIE HERITAGE TRUST, $190,000 – Regional galleries to be confirmed

Louise Cooper will co-facilitate a Victorian tour of the Neurokin community arts and professional development program for Autistic and neurodiverse people to a range of community houses across Victoria. The program will include creative activities for children, young people and adults; professional development sessions for artists with lived experience; and capacity building for the participating venues to deliver safe sensory activities for their local community.

MELBOURNE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, $58,798 - Bendigo, Daylesford, Geelong, Horsham, Mildura, Mornington, Narre Warren, Red Cliffs, Shepparton, Warragal, Yackandandah
Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s 2023 Touring Season will present a state-wide program of orchestral and chamber music, visiting twelve locations to present performances, student masterclasses, talks and more.

MELBOURNE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, $120,000 - Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Shepparton, Wangaratta, Warragal
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will visit regional centres across Victoria in 2024 with a varied program of performances, school workshops and collaborative rehearsals to meet the distinct requirements of each region.
