Celebrating design in all its forms, the awards recognise projects in 8 categories: architectural, communication, strategy, digital, fashion, product, service and tertiary student. This year, 127 finalists were shortlisted, with the top entry taking home the coveted Victorian Premier’s Design Award of the Year.

This year’s Victorian Premier’s Design Award of the Year went to Melbourne-based creative studio Motherbird, who developed a brand for the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

ISO is a globally significant organisation that develops and publishes international standards across a range of industries, from manufactured products and technology to food safety, transport, IT, agriculture, and healthcare. With such an important role in leading international standards, it was vital that the organisation had a cohesive and easy to understand brand that spoke to ISO’s purpose. Motherbird’s comprehensive overhaul of the brand was also recognised as the Communication Design Best in Category.

Other winners include Saveful - an app that addresses food waste and fosters sustainability by empowering users to create meals from ingredients they already have. This project received the Best in Category Award for Digital Design.

The Product Design award went to Navi Medical Technologies and Design + Industry (D+I) for the lifesaving Neonav® ECG Tip Location System. This innovative new medical device helps medical staff to insert catheters when treating newborns and children in critical care.

Footwear designer and maker Preston Zly was awarded the Fashion Design Best in Category Award for its innovative approach to producing shoe sole treatments sustainably and cost-effectively.

Established by the Victorian Government in 1996, the annual Awards celebrate and reward design while showcasing the impact of the sector on society, the environment and economy.

Design is a vital component of Victoria’s $40.5 billion creative industries sector, supporting nearly 200,000 jobs and contributing $6 billion to the state economy.
