"I am undertaking a 3-month period of experimentation to research creative links between sound and medicine, which will eventually manifest in a new electro-acoustic ensemble work for 7-piece ensemble and multi-speaker environment. My research will focus on deriving creative musical strategies from perceptual, otological and parapsychological sound phenomena, working with Victorian instrumentalists within a multi-speaker array to produce auditory hallucinations, both real and imagined. This research is pre-production for a new work entitled Pseudacusis, to be performed by a European ensemble at the multi-city Musica Sanae Festival across Naples, Sokolowsko and Berlin throughout 2019.
What does being awarded a Creators Fund grant mean to you?
The opportunity to go super deep into ideas that I wouldn't otherwise have the resources to explore.
How important is 'time' to you, as an artist/creative professional?
Finding the time and space to make fine work is everything.
What are you most looking forward to over the months ahead?
Settling in my new country base, shutting out the universe, reading lots of books, making lots of music.
Where would like to see yourself at the end of this process? How do you anticipate your career will develop as a result?
I would like to see myself having written a major new piece as per the brief!
My career is just a string of experiments, so I hope this project leads to more ideas and directions.
