Employment in Visual arts, craft and design

  • 2016 Census data records 12,876 Victorians employed as Visual arts and craft professionals as their main job, such as painters, sculptors, photographers and jewellers, 3,116 of these were in non-cultural or creative industries.
  • 49,380 Victorians were employed as design workers in a variety of areas, including architectural services, advertising, fashion, illustration and web design. 17,817 of these were in non-cultural or creative industries.

Volunteers in Visual arts

  • In 2016, 1,712 volunteers provided 62,044 hours of service to 34 visual arts organisations supported by Creative Victoria
  • In addition, in 2016-17 volunteers at the National Gallery of Victoria provided 39,928 hours of service, equivalent to 5,254 days
