The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series brings major international art exhibitions exclusively to Melbourne each winter.

The series was initiated by the Victorian Government to:

  • Attract national and international visitors to Victoria during what was traditionally the quieter tourism period.
  • Generate significant economic impact for the state
  • Generate significant national and international media exposure for Victoria

Since 2004, there have been 25 blockbuster exhibitions which combined have attracted 5 million local, interstate and international attendances.

In 2018, the National Gallery of Victoria’s MOMA exhibition generated over $28 million for the Victorian economy and attracted 404,000 visitors.
