The State Library of Victoria is one of Australia's oldest cultural institutions, opened in 1856.

The library collection comprises over three million books and serials,  one of Australia's largest newspaper collections, hundreds of thousands of pictures, maps, manuscripts, artefacts and materials in digital and multimedia formats. The library's off-site storage facility is located in Ballarat.
