84 film, television and digital media projects commenced production spending an estimated $230 million in the state:

  • 21 feature films (including feature documentaries, interstate and international projects) leveraged $65.1 million in production expenditure
  • 41 television projects (including drama, comedy, documentary and animation projects) leveraged $161.9 million in expenditure
  • 22 games projects leveraged $3.5 million

Supported productions created 7,715 employment opportunities for Victorians

Australian Centre for the Moving Image, 2016-17

Attendance at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image at Federation Square was 1.8 million:

  • Website visitation was 1.6 million
  • Education programs attracted almost 60,000 participants
  • ACMI is custodian of the state owned collection with a value of $9.4 million

Employment in the wider sector

  • In 2016, Census data recorded 11,293 Victorians employed in the film and television industry as their main job
  • 5,513 of these were in non-cultural or creative occupations
