Participation in creative activities demonstrates the value placed by Victorians through their willingness to engage with a wide range of activity. Participation indicates a deeper, more active involvement which is different to attendance at an event.
The Australia Council publishes the results of its survey The National Participation Survey which has been run three times since 2009.
The survey records details on the frequency of visits and characteristics of people, 15 years and older, who participated in a range of artforms: visual arts and craft, music, dance, theatre and literature.
The rate of participation by Victorians has generally increased over the history of this survey.
