2019 is Melbourne Design Week’s most ambitious instalment yet.
Melbourne, and for the first time Geelong, play host to 200 events including 47 design exhibitions, 16 design related film screenings, 33 tours and 81 talks by leading design experts.
Curated around five themes this year’s program is focused on global issues like climate change, public health, Artificial Intelligence and safe cities.
Waterfront: Reconnecting with Birrarung (Yarra River)
Open House Melbourne presents a series of programs that invite us to reconsider and reconnect with the river and the role it plays in our city.
Exploring new ways of examining synthetics, natural fibres and the manufacturing process, all major players in the global sustainability system.
Exploring all the ways in which design reimagines our life – from products to transport to health.
The War On Waste
Featuring several events focused on the role of design in addressing climate change and pollution.
Urban areas continue to grow and attract more people, this series examines the effect design can have on the landscape to offer all citizens safety, equality, inclusion and respect.
Creative Victoria is also presenting a special breakfast forum at the NGV Garden Restaurant on 21 March featuring ABC business journalist Ali Moore hosting a panel of business leaders discussing design practice in business strategy.
