The National Gallery of Victoria’s newly announced 2019 Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition will offer local audiences a rare glimpse at some of China’s most beloved treasures both old and new.

Terracotta Warriors

Terracotta Warriors

Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality will feature eight of China’s famous ancient statues along with two life-size horses and other historical artefacts representing Chinese history.

In a blockbuster double bill, contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang will display newly created artworks – including an installation of 10,000 suspended porcelain birds – as part of his The Transient Landscape exhibition.

Viewed together the shows will be a celebration of Chinese art and culture, past and present.

The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces presentation of Terracotta Warriors: Guardians of Immortality and Cai Guo-Qiang: The Transient Landscape will be on display from 24 May 2019 – 13 October 2019 at NGV International. For further information, visit ngv.melbourne.
