29 March 2018

The 32nd Melbourne International Comedy Festival roars open - the biggest MICF to date.

A record-breaking 620 shows and 7,500 performances, will bring the laughs to more than 100 venues across 26 days.

Proving its reputation as one of the top three comedy festivals across the globe, this year’s program features acts from countries including the USA, UK, New Zealand, Ireland and Iceland alongside the festival’s largest showcase of comedy from across Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

Last year more than 760,000 people flocked to the comedy festival, with one third travelling from regional Victoria, interstate and oversees. It attracted a bigger audience than the AFL Finals series and the Australian Tennis Open.

Local heroes will once again perform alongside with newcomers with close to 25 percent of participating acts and artists taking part in the festival for the first time.

Family fun will return to Federation Square for The (Very) Big Laugh Out - a free program for comedy lovers of all ages featuring renowned street performers from Australia and around the world.

The next generation of comedy talent will be crowned in the annual RAW Comedy, Class Clowns and Deadly Funny finals.

The 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs from 28 March until 22 April before going on tour with a roadshow to Australian regional towns and capital cities, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Singapore.
