Victorian productions shone at the 2017 Film Critic’s Circle of Australia Awards, which were announced this week.

Lion continued its dream run, taking the gong for Best Film of 2017. The film also won Best Director (Garth Davis), Best Cinematography (Greig Fraser) and Best Editing (Alexandre De Franceschi).

Victorians Andrew Knight and Osamah Sami won Best Screenplay for Ali’s Wedding, while Frances Duca won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the same film.

Victorian composer Bryony Marks won Best Original Score for Berlin Syndrome.

All of the award-winning films above were made with support from Film Victoria.

The Film Critics Circle of Australia exists to promote excellence and integrity in the art of film criticism, to support the advancement of Australian and international film culture and to recognise outstanding achievement in Australian film through its annual awards.

Judges in 2018 included personalities from Australian media across television, newspapers, radio, online and freelance writers, as well as Australian representatives from international magazines like Variety and Screen International.
