5 December 2017

Hong Kong Business of Design Week opens today and Victorian design leaders are on the ground, ready to meet the world.

Presented by the Hong Kong Design Centre, Hong Kong Business of Design Week is Asia’s leading annual event focusing on design, innovation and brands. With over 100,000 people attending the forums, conferences, expos and showcases across the week, it brings together some of the world’s most outstanding design masters and influential business figures to network, exchange ideas and explore partnerships and business opportunities.

Creative Victoria with the Design Institute of Australia is leading a Victorian Design Trade Mission to Design Week, with a delegation of around 50 members including Victorian designers, architects, and design-led businesses, design industry associations and universities. Several companies received travel grants (https://creative.vic.gov.au/funding-and-support/programs/hong-kong-business-of-design-week-grants) to attend.

The event will provide valuable exposure to Asian markets, especially Hong Kong and mainland China more broadly, and an opportunity to network and build relationships in the territory and beyond.

The Trade Mission is an outcome of the Creative State strategy, Victoria’s first comprehensive strategy for the creative industries. One of the key actions of Creative State is to strengthen Victoria’s reputation as a global design leader, while building and promoting cultural and economic links between Victoria’s dynamic creative industries sector and Asia.

This year’s delegation will set the scene for 2018 when Melbourne has been chosen to partner with the Hong Kong Design Centre for the event, showcasing the best of Victorian experiential, fashion, architectural, digital games, communications and industrial design to the world.

This is first time an Australian city has been chosen to be the Design Week partner city.
