Augie March, Jess Ribeiro and Ollie Olsen are just a few of the acts set to play the 2017 Leaps and Bounds Music Festival.
Festival presenter, the City of Yarra made its first major program announcement this week, with many more events and gigs still to be revealed.
Running 13 – 23 of July, the fifth Leaps and Bounds Festival will kick off with a gig at The Corner Hotel featuring live sets from Augie March, Jess Ribeiro and The Pink Tiles. A very special guest will also be on hand to perform Paul Kelly's 'Leaps and Bounds' on the night.
Over the following 10 days, a massive assortment of music-centric events will take over one of Victoria's most bustling live music municipalities, with more than 40 local venues, record stores and businesses taking part in the program.
Highlights from the program include a live broadcast of PBS 106.7FM's Acid Country at The Gem on Thursday 20 July, with performances by Rich Davies and Ayleen O'Hanlon, Brooke Russell and The Mean Reds, and Miles and Simone.
On Saturday 22 July, Ed Kuepper will be 'In Conversation' at the Melba Speigeltent, celebrating the 40-year anniversary of The Saints' debut seminal album, (I'm) Stranded.
Two of Melbourne's hottest young electronic acts will appear at The Nightcat on Saturday 14 July for Friendships Vs Habits, whileSome Velvet Morning will present Some Velvet Nights, a gig series featuring folk and indie artists including The Darling Downs, Mikelangelo, Jess Parker & The Troubled Waters and Dave Graney.
Leaps andBounds will also include a special screening of the Victorian made documentary Persecution Blues on Monday 17 July. Punk, passion, politics and public protest collide in this documentary, which depicts the struggle of more than 20,000 music fans to save the iconic Tote Hotel. The film will be followed footage of a never-before-seen 2008 live set at the Tote by Eddy Current Suppression Ring.
Leaps and Bounds Music Festival 2017 runs from 13 – 23 of July at venues around the City of Yarra.
Additional shows, venues, and special events will be announced on Monday 29 May.
