Craft Cubed, Craft Victoria's annual month-long festival of the handmade, kicks off on Tuesday 1 August.
Craft Cubed 2017 features over 80 events happening across the state of Victoria, including exhibitions, workshops, open studios and online projects.
This year’s festival will also see the launch of Crafting Communities, a series of community-based DIY events that emphases diversity and open access, showcasing the dynamic and creative makers that exists all across the state.
Craft Cubed highlights include:
- Craft and Design as a Career Two Day Conference – Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August
A two day event at the site formerly known as 1000 Pound Bend (now The Gallery) that is designed to inspire and foster excellence in thought, creation, retail and business.
- Craft Cubed Market - Saturday 26 August
A showcase market for emerging designers and makers.
Looking at the intersections between craft and community, the Craft Cubed Window Walk is a trail of site specific installations and collaborations around the City of Melbourne.
- Photography for Creatives Workshop – Saturday 19 August
A team of experts will explore basic photography principles and composition rules through to flat lay techniques and light box use. Learn iPhone hacks, soft box tricks and object specific considerations to help you represent yourself and help sell your work.
- Linda Huges Striped Interference – From Saturday 26 August
Melbourne based jeweller Linda Hughes will present a solo exhibition of new work at Craft Victoria for Craft Cubed and the Radiant Pavilion contemporary jewellery festival. This exhibition aims to both maintain her elevation of common materials and further her ongoing investigation into graphic signage, urban landscape and the symbolism of abstracted colour coding.
- Bianca Mavrick Memory + Assembly – From Wednesday 23 August
In Memory + Assembly, jeweller and object maker Bianca Mavrick returns to her earliest memories of childhood, exploring the personal and collective migrant experiences of her Greek-Italian family growing up in sub-tropical Queensland.
The feature artist for Craft Cubed 2017 is artist and jeweller Annie Gobel. Annie's work exemplifies this year's festival in her passion for experimentation, community, collaboration and wearable objects. It will be shown at Junior Space in the Complete Me exhibition from Thursday 10 August.
