Mildura Arts Centre is marking its 60th birthday this weekend with several free events open to the public.
On Friday 27 May, the centre will host an exhibition opening offering a rare chance for visitors to view works from the centre's founding collection. Jewels by Brangwyn, Orpen and Degas, as well as historic photographs and documents dating back to the gallery's launch in 1956, will also be on display.
On Saturday 28 May, Mildura Arts Centre will continue its Diamond Jubilee Celebrations with an Open Day featuring talks, tours, live music, and kids' activities. The Open Day will include a presentation of The Future Postal Service, an installation and game that transforms the adult dominated space of the post office into a playful domain for children.
Located only a few blocks outside the Mildura town centre, the Mildura Arts Centre is a significant cultural precinct that has played an important role in the creative life of the Sunraysia region. Since its humble beginnings at the Rio Vista Historic House, the centre has been developed to incorporate art galleries, a performing arts venue, gardens and a sculpture park.
