Public Records Office Victoria (PROV) is offering grants of up to $15,000 for projects that will preserve and share local history.

The Victorian Government recognises that local and community history is an important part of Victoria's memory. The Local History Grants program encourages and fosters community activities that better preserve, record and share the local, social and community history of Victoria and Victorians.

Grants are available to not-for-profit organisations including community groups, historical societies and community museums.

Last year saw seventy-one community groups across Victoria share in the funding for historical projects and publications through the Local History Grants Program. These included the digitisation of Victorian records, the development of guided historic walking tours in Cornish Hill and Campbell's Creek and the restoring of historic costumes from Bendigo.

Applications for the Local History Grants program close at 5pm on 31 January 2017.
