State Library Victoria has awarded Alison Lester with the 2016 Dromkeen Medal.

Alison Lester wins State Library of Victoria's Dromkeen Medal

Lester is one of Australia's admired children's authors and illustrators. Lester's picture books are synonymous with the term classic with titles that have entertained  multiple generations of Australian children. Our Island, Kissed by the Moon, Are We There Yet?, Rosie Sips Spiders, Clive Eats Alligators series, Magic Beach and Imagine are just a selection.

From State Library Victoria CEO Kate Torney, "We are delighted to present the Dromkeen Medal this year to Alison Lester, who is a tireless advocate for children's literacy and promoter of the joy of reading."

"Alison's books have introduced a generation of children to their first words and set them on grand adventures before bedtime. She is a very worthy recipient of this prestigious award."

The State Library has presented the Dromkeen Medal since 2013 which is a national annual award honouring outstanding contributions to children's literature.
