Today, $596,726 in grants were announced to support 10 tours by Victorian companies – presenting more than 27 shows of various sizes and genres – in regional Victoria and outer metropolitan Melbourne in 2017.
Melbourne Chamber Orchestra will take its 2017 season of orchestral and chamber music to more than a dozen destinations throughout Victoria, including Traralgon, Portland, Swan Hill and Yackandandah. Orchestra Victoria will also present regional festivals in Hamilton and Bendigo in 2017.
Between them, contemporary dance company KAGE, The Australian Ballet and Melbourne City Ballet will present new solo dance works, ballet classics and artist development workshops at destinations throughout Victoria.
In theatre, Ilbijerri will tour its acclaimed production Coranderrk and Hit Productions will present the Australian theatre classic Hotel Sorrento at multiple destinations throughout Victoria.
Other presentations include a new play by Sandra Long that will tour during Mental Health Week 2017; The Village Festival Tour of its unique and visually striking multi-arts program to Benalla; and the Culture Café Series, a program of small-scale musical shows to numerous small towns across regional Victoria.
The Touring Victoria program provides support for Victorian arts organisations or artists to tour productions, performances, exhibitions or programs to regional and outer metropolitan Victoria, engaging more Victorians in cultural and creative endeavour through greater access to a range of professional works and events.
Applications for the next round of the program, for tours commencing after 1 July 2017, will close at 5pm, Wednesday 8 February 2017.
TOURING VICTORIA – GRANT RECIPIENTS
Regional Arts Victoria, $83,537
Tour of Coranderrk by Ilbijerri Theatre, a theatre production that recreates the 1881 Victorian Parliamentary inquiry into the treatment of people living on the Coranderrk Aboriginal Reserve in Healesville. This production will travel to 10 regional and two outer-metro destinations (locations TBC).

Tour in 2018 of Hotel Sorrento by playwright Hannie Rayson to Kyneton, Warrnambool, Wangaratta, Ballarat, Ararat, Bendigo, Mooroopna, Horsham, Portland, Warragul, Bairnsdale, Healesville and Upwey, with other locations to be confirmed.
La Mama for Sandra Fiona Long, $16,700Presentation of Birdcage Thursdays, a new play about hoarding by Sandra Long that will tour to Drysdale, Ballarat and Violet Town during Mental Health Week 2017.
Mary Souness, $145,000Just Shows to Go's 2017 Café Culture Series, a touring program of four small scale musical shows, each travelling to up to 17 small regional locations.
The Australian Ballet, $80,000Tour of the classical ballet Giselle by The Dancers Company, the regional touring arm of The Australian Ballet, to Ballarat and Wangaratta.
Melbourne City Ballet, $18,345Presentation of Melbourne City Ballet's 2017 regional touring program, featuring three classic ballet seasons accompanied by workshops and local artist development opportunities, to Bendigo, Ballarat, Traralgon, Drysdale, Kyneton, Bairnsdale, Sale, Benalla, Wodonga and Pakenham, with other locations to be confirmed.
