What was once closed Katie Collins

What was once closed is a series of neckpieces exploring our interactions and encounters with jewellery. The objects begin closed and folded in, where their function is not apparent. Only when the objects unfurl are they understandable as jewellery. These works aim to make visible the shift between these two moments, drawing particular attention to the transformation and reveal. The hinging and pivoting mechanisms allude to the movements, their forms and details mimicking machinery of a much larger scale.

Katie Collins is a contemporary jeweller, maker and designer. Working from her Melbourne-based studio, she produces jewellery and objects for exhibition. Katie has shown in galleries in Australia and internationally.
