Re.Bean Coffee Stool, Kristen Wang Melbourne School of Design

Coffee grounds are a form of major global organic waste and there is little public awareness of this problem. The Re.Bean furniture project explores innovative design solutions to reutilise this waste material, transforming it into biodegradable furniture.

The Re.Bean Coffee Stool is based on intensive research and experimentation with the physicality and materiality of coffee grounds. The stool’s coffee smell, unique sense of tactility, and sustainable production process reveals how daily waste from coffee consumption can be transformed into furniture for daily use.
