Maree Clarke

Thung-ung Coorang (kangaroo teeth necklace)

Interdisciplinary artist Maree Clarke is connected to the traditional lands of the Mutti Mutti, Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta and Boonwurrung peoples of Victoria. Her inventive jewellery collection of contemporary wearable neckpieces, Thung-ung Coorang combines customary organic materials with 3D-scanned and digitally-printed forms modelled from kangaroo teeth, echidna quills and crow feathers.

This new collection merges tradition with digital technology to speak about place, culture and history. The collection derives from Clarke’s production of a number of kangaroo-teeth necklaces in which she painstakingly reclaims now obsolete customary processes and produces cultural objects of adornment and power.
