Diadem design

Smart City Totem Diadem

Smart City Totems promote the wellbeing of citizens by housing supplies and critical technologies for rapid access during emergencies. The project grew out of Phantom Billstickers’ bollards, a project generated in the aftermath of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and the realisation that bollards were some of the last standing structures.

In exploring what the smart city can be, Diadem has conceptualised iterations that suit the global scope of urban contexts, articulated in three archetypes: civic-minded, empowered and healthy. Supporting Phantom Billstickers’ socially-minded initiatives, Diadem is designing infrastructure in the interest of the wider community and enabling cities to respond to the needs of their citizens. These innovative solutions are designed to ensure that cities understand and plan for their own resilience.
