Imagined gown design by Toni Maticevksi

Melbourne-based fashion designer Toni Maticevski studied at RMIT University, graduating with First Class Honours. After a professional placement with Donna Karan in New York, Maticevski moved to Paris, working with the house of Cerruti. After returning to Melbourne in 1998, he launched his own label and, soon after, won plaudits for his distinctive feminine dresses and artful silhouettes.

His unique and unwavering approach to design and the craft of fashion saw him receive the 2002 award for Best New Designer at the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival. Maticevski has collaborated with dance institutions such as Phillip Adams Ballet Lab and The Australian Ballet. In 2013, he worked with the National Gallery of Victoria on its Melbourne Now exhibition. In 2016, Maticevski had the first major retrospective of his work ‘Dark Wonderland’ at the Bendigo Art Gallery in Victoria, in conjunction with the launch of his book Maticevski: The Elegant Rebel.
