Lisa Barty’s design was inspired by the Australian wattle which is known as both a symbol of unity and resilience. Wattle is a native flower, the floral emblem of Australia, with a long history of symbolism including representing Australia on the coronation gown of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Perhaps less well known is the wattle’s ability to not only recover after bushfires but blossom and flourish. This inspired Lisa’s collection, that takes discarded clothes and reworks them, allowing them to come to life once more.
