Bisa Kdei, Sister Girl

From site-specific theatre to Ghanaian pop, Fred Williams in the You Yangs to Writers Victoria in the regions, below are just some the projects and events happening this month that have benefitted from Creative Victoria's investment and support.

CANNONBALL | ASIA TOUR
Funded through Music Works 
Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, 30 September – 6 October
Inspired by jazz/groove/soul music, Cannonball will soon commence their Asia tour, featuring performances at the Hong Kong International Jazz Festival,  Beishan Music Festival (China), Da Jidian Music Festival (China) and also at clubs and educational institutions in Beijing, Zhongshan (China) and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

MARYSVILLE JAZZ AND BLUES WEEKEND
Funded through Music Works 
Marysville and surrounding areas, 20 – 22 October
A contemporary and traditional jazz and blues festival, presenting Australian touring acts and international acclaimed artists as well as local musicians and performers set in the idyllic and picturesque township of Marysville and surrounds.

BISA KDEI | SISTER GIRL EP
Funded through Music Works
Talented Ghanaian hip-life singer and songwriter Bisa Kdei is out with a new single titled ‘Sister Girl’ for our listening pleasure.

CAFÉ CULTURE SERIES
Funded through Touring Victoria
Various regional Victoria locations
Shows include Sonidos Flamencos, Bush Gothic, Dall'Italia All'Australia, I Viaggiatori and The Wilkman. This program will travel to small communities throughout regional Victoria in 2017.

MARTYN COUTTS | SHELL GAME
Funded through VicArts Grants
Proximity Festival Perth, 26 September – 7 October
A site specific performance exploring a personal model for divination about the future. Placing you into the centre of the Spratly Islands, an international flashpoint where international shipping, mango exports and the odd K-Pop star have been caught up in the maelstrom.

RAISED BY EAGLES | NATIONAL TOUR
Funded through Music Works 
NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, 11 August-2 October
An Americano group from Melbourne,  Raised by Eagles has delivered a stunning suite of songs with new album I Must Be Somewhere.

THE REREADERS | PODCAST
Funded through VicArts Grants
Fortnightly
Put down the books and listen  to  The Rereaders latest episode with theatre-maker, cultural critic, and e-newsletter queen Matilda Dixon Smith.

WRITER’S VICTORIA | THE SALON GOES REGIONAL
Funded through Touring Victoria 
Sorrento, 27 October
The Salon hits the road! Come and celebrate your milestones and delight in conversation with fellow writers, including celebrated author Mark Smith.

AUSTRALIAN ART ORCHESTRA | 2017 PROGRAM
Funded through VicArts Grants
Various, 2017 
With an emphasis on improvisation, the AAO explores the meeting points between disciplines and cultures, and imagines new musical forms to reflect the energy and diversity of 21st century Australia.

BLINDSIDE GALLERY | MARK ALL AS READ
Funded through VicArts Grants
Blindside Gallery, 4 – 21 October
Nick Modrzewski + Nabilah Nordin + Katie Paine present a collaborative exhibition about the effect of work on the body.

HUSKY | EUROPE ALBUM LAUNCH
Funded through Music Works 
Sweden, Norway, Germany, 2 – 12 October
A folk-rock band hailing from Melbourne, cousins Husky Gawenda and Gideon Preiss will  undertake their largest European tour to date to promote their new album Punchbuzz.

THE G.R.A.I.N. STORE
Funded through Small Regional Presenters 
Nathalia, various dates
Located in a converted grain store shopfront in the middle of town, The G.R.A.I.N Store is a not-for-profit nationally recognized rural arts center with a history of exhibitions, performances and workshops. Upcoming events include Waratah String Quartet and Jo Jo Smith.

LEO CUSSEN | GOLDEN YEARS
Funded through VicArts Grants 
Arts Project, Northcote, 16 September – 21 October
With a penchant towards depicting Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers mid-twirl, Leo Cussen captures moments from the Golden Age of Hollywood, creating artworks of great movement. and beauty.

MELBOURNE CITY BALLET | THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ TOUR
Funded through Touring Victoria 
VIC | TAS, 6 October – 23 November
Follow the classic tale of Dorothy Gale who is transported to the magical land of Oz but must find her way home before the Wicked Witch of the West gets hold of her.

BETHANY SIMONS | RECEPTION THE MUSICAL
Funded through Touring Victoria 
Mildura Arts Centre, 21 October
A celebration of all things administration, Reception: The Musical tells the story of a receptionist who finds joy in the manic world of customer service, stationery orders and thinking on your swivel chair.

ROMANCING THE SKULL
Supported through the Fine Arts Indemnification Scheme 
Art Gallery of Ballarat, 14 October 2017 – 28 January 2018
The exhibition looks at the depiction of the skull in art and examines why we continue to be so enamoured with this iconic symbol.

AMY WINEHOUSE | A FAMILY PORTRAIT
Supported through the Fine Arts Indemnification Scheme 
Jewish Museum, 22 October 2017 – 25 March 2018
A personal and intimate exhibition which explores Amy Winehouse’s inner world, and the influences that shaped her career and personal life.

RENÉ MAGRITTE | THE REVEALING IMAGE
Supported through the Fine Arts Indemnification Scheme
Latrobe Regional Gallery , 19 August-19 November
The Revealing Image will feature 130 original photographs and 8 films by renowned Belgian Surrealist, Rene Magritte.

FRED WILLIAMS | IN THE YOU YANGS
Supported through the Fine Arts Indemnification Scheme
Geelong Gallery, 19 August-5 November
This exhibition brings together the ground-breaking paintings, drawings and etchings that represent the turning point in Fred Williams’ vision of the Australian landscape.
