From contemporary visual art to migrant stories, new plays and books to experimental music nights, below are just some the projects and events happening this month that have benefitted from Creative Victoria's investment and support.

D.D. DUMBO | EUROPEAN TOUR
Funded through Music Works
UK, Austria, 15-23 August
J Award winner D.D. Dumbo will be on tour in London in support of his debut record ‘Utopia Defeated’.

NICHE
Funded through VicArts Grants
Northcote Town Hall, 16-26 August
Niche is a surreal, irreverent and deeply affecting story about what we really want from celebrity in the digital age.

LICHEN: ELISION ENSEMBLE
Funded through VicArts Grants
Meat Market, 8 August
Musicians from the ELISION Ensemble perform the world premiere of Matthew Sergeant's “Lichen”, commissioned for the RMIT University Sonic Arts Collection.

NIGHTDANCE
Funded through VicArts Grants
Arts House, 24–27 August
A pulsating new work that investigates the physical experience of the nightclub, and its seductive promise of transformation, primal temptation and sublime release.

RADIANT PAVILLION

Melbourne - various locations, 26 August-3 September
Radiant Pavilion is a celebration of the many aspects of contemporary jewellery and object practice in Melbourne and around the world.

CAFÉ CULTURE SERIES
Funded through Touring Victoria
Various regional Victoria locations and dates
Shows include Sonidos Flamencos, Bush Gothic, Dall'Italia All'Australia, I Viaggiatori and The Wilkman. This program will travel to small communities throughout regional Victoria in 2017.

THE CROW FAMILY

Red Rock Regional Theatre & Gallery, 12 August
Told by real life family, The Crow Family is a gentle, intimate, and beautiful music performance event about remarkable creatures and what makes us human.

BETTY SARGEANT | THE PLAYGROUND

Ararat, 12-20 August
An interactive media art project that features a co-designed sculpture, interactive projection mapping and public participation.

RAISED BY EAGLES | ALBUM LAUNCH NATIONAL TOUR
Funded through Music Works

An Americana group from Melbourne,  Raised by Eagles has delivered a stunning suite of songs with new album I Must Be Somewhere.

JESSICA FRIEDMAN | THINGS THAT HELPED

The artist’s work reveals our contemporary urban and digital landscapes, as well as the elements of domestic life, conflating multiple spheres simultaneously.

AUSTRALIAN ART ORCHESTRA | SUPERSENSE: FESTIVAL OF THE ECSTATIC

AAO is joining Spiritualized and Consort of Melbourne onstage for a headline performance at Melbourne's transformative three-day music extravaganza.

ASYLUM SILK ROADS

A collaborative community art project which has involved about 100 refugees, migrants and people seeking asylum in Greater Melbourne.

MELBOURNE CITY BALLET  | A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

This comical tale explores the lives of two couples whose lives are affected by the meddling fairies who live in a mysterious forest.

LOURIS VAN DE GEER | LOOKING GLASS

Written by Louris van de Geer and directed by Susie Dee, Looking Glass is a frightening portrait of a family stuck looking to the ‘other’ to define its ‘self’.

WRITING THE WAR: PERSONAL STORIES FROM WWI

Encounter seven ordinary Australians and hear their extraordinary stories of war in this moving landmark exhibition tracing WWI.

AUSTRALIAN ART ORCHESTEA | 2017 PROGRAM

With an emphasis on improvisation, the AAO explores the meeting points between disciplines and cultures, and imagines new musical forms to reflect the energy and diversity of 21st century Australia.

HELLO, GOODBYE AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Scripted from intimate real-life conversations with people experiencing milestone birthdays, this performance gives the audience an ability to eavesdrop on those figuring out where to begin and those wondering out how to say goodbye.

WE’RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT

This 55 minute mini-musical captures the fun and frolics of a father who is clearly still a child at heart, his three children plus the family dog and of course...A BIG BROWN CUDDLY BEAR!

DANGEROUS DEEDS | EXHIBITION

Warrnambool Art Gallery, 22 July-24 September
An arts installation presenting ‘snapshots’ from the Victorian disability movement: the exhibition provides unique perspectives on disability culture and insights into aspects of Victoria’s social and cultural history.

RENÉ MAGRITTE | THE REVEALING IMAGE

Latrobe Regional Gallery , 19 August-19 November
The Revealing Image will feature 130 original photographs and 8 films by renowned Belgian Surrealist, Rene Magritte.

FRED WILLIAMS | IN THE YOU YANGS

Geelong Gallery, 19 August-5 November
This exhibition brings together the ground-breaking paintings, drawings and etchings that represent the turning point in Fred Williams’ vision of the Australian landscape.
