25 August 2017

A group of Victorian game developers is taking on Europe’s largest games market, as part of an Australian delegation to Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.

Nine Victoria companies are currently attending the event, including Big Ant Studios, Bail Enemy, Surprise Attack, The Otherworld Agency, FMOD, Mighty Games, Wicked Witch Studios, League of Geeks and Tantalus. This cohort makes up around 65% of the Australian Gamescom delegation, reflecting Melbourne’a position as  the home of games in Australia

Led by the Game Developers’ Association of Australia (GDAA), the Victorian Gamescom delegates are participating in public and business programs that will further strengthen the global profile of our  local games industry and create new export opportunities.

This is the first time the Victorian Government has backed a local games industry delegation to Gamescon. It follows successful delegations to other key international games industry events including the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and PAX East in Boston. In   2017, these visits are expected to generate $12 million in business over the next two years.

The 2017 Gamescom delegation is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria and the federal Department of Foreign Trade and Affairs (DFAT). The initiative forms part of DFAT’s 2017 focus country program, Australia now Germany, which also saw four Victorian performing arts companies showcase at Theatre der Welt in Hamburg in May 2017.

Gamescom runs from 22-26 August 2017.
