ACMI and Film Victoria have announced the full program for Series Mania Melbourne with news Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan will headline the festival.

Over four days Series Mania will deliver more than 20 free screenings and premiere some of the best new drama, comedy and web series from around the world along with workshops and talks by series creators and stars.

The award-winning writer, producer, director and creator of the critically acclaimed series Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan will deliver a special industry masterclass and feature in panel discussions and Q&As.

The Melbourne-made series Sunshine, will open the festival on 20 July. Starring Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace) and Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men), the high-stakes crime drama is set in Melbourne's South Sudanese community.

Series Mania will include the world premieres of web series Edge of the Bush, a Scandi-noir-inflected comedy starring Barry Award nominee Anne Edmonds and directed by The Katering Show's co-creator and star Kate McCartney. And from Executive Producer Sue Maslin comes Other People's Problems, based on the true story of two friends who team up to ghost write other people's personal letters.

Following the huge success of Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney's breakout web series The Katering Show, Series Mania will screen the premiere Get Krack!n, the first full-length series created by the duo.

International highlights include crime drama Your Honor (Israel) and thriller Supermax (Argentina).

Held at the Forum des Images in Paris each year, Series Mania is a key event on the global television industry calendar, and this is the first time it's being held in Australia.

Presented by ACMI and Film Victoria, Series Mania Melbourne will take place at ACMI from 20 to 24 July 2017.
