Melbourne has been selected as the partner city for Business of Design Week 2018, Hong Kong's flagship design showcase event.

Business of Design Week (BoDW) is Asia's leading annual event on design, innovation and brands – a five-day conference that attracts more than 120,000 visitors from all over the world.

Held in the first week of December each year, the event brings together some of the world's most outstanding design masters and influential business figures to discuss the latest and best in design trends and achievements.

Melbourne is the first city in the southern hemisphere to be chosen as partner for the event, following BoDW partnerships with Italy, Chicago, Barcelona and Sweden, among others. The partner city or country is selected each year based on the strength and profile of its design sector, and given a particular spotlight at the BoDW event.

This week, Premier Daniel Andrews and Professor Eric Yim of the Hong Kong Design Centre met at the Melbourne Design Showcase, currently on show at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, to formally announce the partnership and witness the signing of a letter of intent.

Outlined in the letter is a joint plan to present a partner pavilion at BODW's concurrent event, DesignInspire 2018, that will showcase the best of Melbourne's designs influencing cities, economy, culture and living.

The agreement represents an incredible opportunity for the Victorian design industry to reach global audiences and generate new business opportunities in design, showcasing Melbourne as a centre of design capability and leadership.

Further programming and events will be announced in the coming months.
