Since 1967 the Australian Writers' Guild has presented the AWGIE Awards to recognise and reward excellence in performance writing – from feature films, to theatre, radio and TV programs and interactive media.

Victorian winners in 2016 include:

  • Barracuda - Blake Ayshford and Belinda Chayko (Television Miniseries - Adaptation)
  • Neighbours: Episode 7202 - Jason Herbison (Television - Serial)
  • The Weekly with Charlie Pickering: 'Halal Certification' and 'Stadium Naming Rights' - Gerard McCulloch with Charlie Pickering (Comedy - Sketch or Light)
  • Please Like Me: Season 3, 'Pancakes with Faces' - Josh Thomas and Liz Doran (Comedy - Situation or Narrative)
  • Ali's Wedding - Andrew Knight and Osamah Sami (Feature Film - Original)
  • Mary, Mary - Penelope Chai and Adam Spellicy (Monte Miller Award - Long Form)

Judged solely by writers, the AWGIE Awards are judged on the written script – the writer's intention rather than the finished product.
