Three of five Australian entries in the 2016 World Architecture 100 hail from Victoria.

The World Architecture 100 is a list of the world's top architectural firms, curated by UK architectural paper Building Design. The list is based on the number of fee-earning architects each firm employs.

Ranked sixth in the world, Melbourne-based firm Woods Bagot was the highest listed Australian company, climbing a spot higher than last year. The firm has produced stunning and distinctive designs including the Chongqing Tall Tower in China, the Qatar Science and Technology Park and the South Australian Health and Medical Research Centre.

Locally, Woods Bagot have created impressive designs for the Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre, the Burwood Highway Frontage of Deakin University and the Student-Led Clinic at Victoria University.

Also headquartered in Melbourne, Bates Smart came in at number 57 on the list. Employing 200 architects across Australia, Bates Smart was responsible for the new Vibe Hotel in Canberra, a striking curved glass structure that is the first view for those arriving at the airport.

Victoria's Buchan Group came in at number 58, climbing two spots up from their previous ranking. In 2015, Buchan Group designed the Emerald apartment tower off St Kilda Road, amongst other achievements.
