The Melbourne City of Literature Office has launched the Known Bookshops Fund, supporting bookshops around Victoria to activate their shops and associated events in new and resourceful ways.

The fund will offer up to $2,000 to ten bookshops to assist with payment of artist fees, production of promotional materials and cultural programming costs.

Regional bookshops will be able to apply for grants of $2,500 to assist with covering the cost of travel and accommodation for visiting artists.

Funds may be used for activities including musical salons, themed events celebrating specific genres such as poetry or comic books, and project support for visual artists-in-residence. Grants cannot be used to cover costs associated with writers' talks, book launches and readings.

Applications for the Known Bookshop Fund can be made by bookshops or individual artists, via the new Melbourne City of Literature website.

The new website features a What's On section enabling local literary organisations and businesses to upload information about their upcoming events and opportunities.

Applications for the Known Bookshop Fund will close at 5.00pm on Monday 4 July.
