Courtney Barnett's winning streak continues with the Victorian musician being named Songwriter of the Year at the 2016 APRA Music Awards in Sydney on Wednesday.

Earlier last month the Melbourne based songwriter took home the $30,000 Australian Music Prize for her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.

The past year has seen Barnett win four ARIA Awards and receive nominations for Grammy and Brit Awards.

The APRA Music Awards recognise outstanding achievements by both songwriters and publishers across the contemporary music industry.
