22 October 2015

Victorian artists are leading the charge at the 2016 Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM), with 20 of the 43 participants hailing from our state.

Taking place from 22-26 February in Brisbane, APAM is Australia's premiere arts touring market. The five-day industry event is designed to provide international and national presenters and agents with access to live works by Australian and New Zealand artists, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts.

Held biennially since 1994, APAM brings together directors, agents, presenters and programmers from some of the world's most prestigious festivals and venues.

A number of national and international tours were generated by Victorian participants in the 2014 event.  For example,  Black Arm Band's full-length work Dirtsong secured a six-city tour to China in August, a six-performance tour in Singapore and Taipei, and a Canadian tour as a result of APAM 2014.

APAM 2016 will feature 28 exciting showcases, including full-length productions and excerpts, as well as 15 work in development pitches.

The market is a vital industry platform for artists to road-test their work in front of international decision-makers and generate export opportunities. Creative Victoria has provided almost $80,000 to support 19 local artists and companies in presenting their work - a full list of grant recipients follows.

The Australian Performing Arts Market is at the Brisbane Powerhouse from 22-26 February 2016.
