Culture Victoria

A gateway to our cultural collections and organisations

From Kylie's hot pants to paintings by William Barak, to images of Australians stranded in Antarctica, the Culture Victoria website holds amazing records of our past and our present.

With over 1000 high resolution images and more than 280 videos, Culture Victoria provides a fascinating overview of our state and our stories. The site showcases the incredible material held in our museums and galleries, building a broad picture of Victorian life from Indigenous culture to contemporary art.

Culture Victoria was developed by the Victorian Cultural Network (VCN), a collaborative project dedicated to digitising our cultural assets and making them available to education and community users. The VCN is a partnership between five Victorian arts agencies, facilitated by Arts Victoria.

The Search Function allows you to navigate across the websites of our major cultural agencies and metro-regional organisations, including the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Museum Victoria, the National Gallery of Victoria, the State Library of Victoria, Arts Centre Melbourne and the Geelong Art Gallery.

The Organisation Database includes over 700 Victorian organisations that hold publicly accessible cultural collections and a Google Maps function to guide you there.

Learn about the restoration of the iconic Shearing of the Rams, hear memories of Victorian immigration, watch football films from country Victoria or listen to an original recording of Dame Nellie Melba: Culture Victoria has all of this and more.

It is your doorway into our amazing cultural heritage, and it is growing every day.
